Football betting rules at BetBetO Bet
These BetBetO Bet football betting rules explain how football bet settlement works, including match time, extra time, penalties, interrupted matches and live events. Settlement means deciding whether an accepted bet is won, lost or void under the applicable rules.
Before placing a bet, check the market name, the period covered, the match status and any special conditions in the bet slip. Where specific market conditions differ from this general guide, the conditions shown for that bet take priority, subject to the applicable Terms and Conditions.
BetBetO Bet aims to settle football bets according to published market rules and official event data. This guide helps users understand football betting rules in Ethiopia; it does not replace the terms governing an accepted bet.
Standard settlement time: 90 minutes
Most football markets cover 90 minutes of play plus referee-added stoppage time. Stoppage time, also called added time, compensates for interruptions within a half. It is not extra time, which is a separate period used in some knockout matches.
Unless the market clearly states otherwise, extra time and penalty shootouts are excluded from:
- Match Result / 1X2: home win, draw or away win.
- Double Chance: two of those three results covered by one selection.
- Total Goals: goals scored compared with a stated total.
- Handicap: the result after applying the market’s stated goal adjustment.
- Both Teams to Score: whether each team scores during the covered period.
“Full time” usually means the end of normal time, including stoppage time, rather than the end of extra time. Always check the stated period. First-half, second-half and other period markets cover only the period identified.
When extra time counts
Extra time counts only where the market rules expressly include it. An “including extra time” market is different from a standard 90-minute Match Result market.
Selections such as “To Qualify,” “Winner of Tie,” “Team to Lift the Trophy” and “Outright Winner” concern progression or the eventual winner. Their rules may include extra time and a penalty shootout, or results across multiple legs. Check the scope before betting.
If Team A draws after 90 minutes and wins in extra time, a 90-minute 1X2 selection on Team A loses. A “Team A to qualify” selection may win if the market includes that route to qualification.
How penalties are settled
A penalty taken during the match is not the same as a penalty shootout. A scored penalty during normal time counts as a match goal for markets covering that period. A penalty scored in extra time counts only where that period is included.
A penalty shootout is a separate tie-breaking procedure. Under standard penalty shootout betting rules, shootout goals do not count towards 90-minute Match Result, Total Goals or Both Teams to Score markets. They are not added to ordinary match goal totals unless the market explicitly says otherwise.
The shootout winner may determine a qualification, trophy or outright selection where the applicable rules include the shootout.
Cancelled, postponed and abandoned matches
The treatment of an interrupted event depends on the published cancellation and rescheduling rules. A void bet is cancelled for settlement purposes; for a single bet, the stake is returned under the applicable void rules. A void selection in a multiple bet is handled under the multiple-bet rules.
Compliance confirmation required: [Insert BetBetO Bet’s approved rescheduling deadline, completion deadline, treatment of resumed matches and exceptions for already-determined markets before publication.]
- Cancelled before kick-off: a cancelled football match bet may be void if the event will not take place, subject to the published policy.
- Postponed before kick-off: postponed football match betting depends on whether the event starts within the permitted rescheduling window. Do not assume the bet is immediately void.
- Abandoned after kick-off: unfinished markets may be void if the match is not completed within the required period. Markets whose outcomes were already conclusively determined may be treated differently.
- Resumed later: check whether bets remain valid for the resumed match and whether the original score and elapsed time carry forward.
- Official result changed later: settlement or resettlement follows the result-correction provisions in the governing terms.
- Incorrect event details: an incorrect date, team or market requires review under the event-error rules; it does not automatically mean a refund.
Do not assume that an abandoned match will be settled using the score at the moment play stopped.
Live football betting settlement
Live football betting rules distinguish a submitted bet from an accepted bet. Submission may involve a delay, and a bet can remain pending or be rejected before acceptance.
A goal, red card, penalty, dangerous attack or VAR review may trigger a football odds change or market suspension—a temporary pause in accepting bets. An unconfirmed request may be rejected or require acceptance of updated odds, depending on the betting settings and rules.
Scores, timers and statistics shown on screen may be delayed. Settlement depends on confirmed event data, not solely on the live display. When using BetBetO Bet live, check the acceptance status in your bet history.
Odds changes and bet confirmation
Odds shown before submission are not necessarily the odds accepted. If they change before acceptance, the system may offer a new price or reject the request. Check any setting that allows acceptance of changed odds.
The accepted odds appear in the confirmed bet record, subject to any applicable error provisions. A later market price change alone does not replace the accepted price. Obvious pricing errors and technical faults are handled under the governing rules, not an assumed automatic payout or refund.
Before confirming, review the selection, stake, odds and period covered—especially during live football.
VAR, official data and result corrections
VAR, the video assistant referee process, can lead to a goal being disallowed, a penalty decision changing or a card being reviewed. Markets may remain suspended while a decision or official data is confirmed.
Settlement should reflect the confirmed event relevant to the market. If an official source later corrects a result or statistic, any resettlement depends on the applicable correction rules and time limits in the Terms and Conditions. A later disciplinary ruling does not necessarily change every settled bet.
Player, cards and corners markets
- Cards: check whether the market counts cards to players on the pitch, substitutes, substituted players or coaching staff. Treatment of second yellow cards and red cards also depends on the market.
- Corners: check the rules for officially awarded and taken corners. Do not assume that an awarded but untaken corner counts.
- Player participation: a player bet may be void if the player does not take part, but starting requirements and substitute participation depend on the specific rules.
- Player goals: own goals usually do not count as goals scored by the named player. Check the market’s scorer-attribution rules.
Check the specific market rules before placing a bet; these markets do not necessarily use identical definitions.
Examples of football bet settlement
- Scenario: Team A draws 1–1 after 90 minutes, then wins in extra time.
- Settlement: a 90-minute 1X2 bet on Team A loses. Extra time is excluded.
- Scenario: The match finishes 0–0 and Team B wins the shootout.
- Settlement: a 90-minute Total Goals Over 0.5 bet loses. Shootout goals do not count.
- Scenario: A match is cancelled before kick-off.
- Settlement: the bet is void if the applicable cancellation rules require it; check any rescheduling exception.
- Scenario: A live bet is submitted during a VAR review.
- Settlement: submission alone does not confirm acceptance. The request may remain pending, require updated odds or be rejected.
- Scenario: Team A advances after a penalty shootout.
- Settlement: “Team A to qualify” wins if the market includes qualification decided by the shootout.
